About US

     Parasitology Unit under the department of pathology which is the oldest department of the Faculty Responsible for teaching and learning, research and academic service. Parasitology that is important to veterinary medicine (helminths, entomology and protozoa) with teaching both at the graduate level and the graduate level in the Master of Science program Doctor of Science Program.


 History

     Department of Pathology, the oldest department of the Faculty Along with the development of veterinary medicine education in Thailand from 16 April 1935 to 16 April 2015 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Chulalongkorn University The development of education and pathology of the department continues to advance. With the continuation of the article collecting biographies of former deans and senior faculty who have laid the foundation for academic pathology. and various changes From an article on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary celebration by retired senior master Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lek Asawapalangchai and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atchariya Sailasut have compiled and compiled to the present as follows:

 

  Year 1935

  From pre-veterinary in the Faculty of Arts and science Chulalongkorn University, which has Prof. Luang
  Prot Phitthayapayat is the Dean of the Veterinary Course Doctor of Medicine 4 years.

  Year 1937

  The teaching of the veterinary department has clearly begun in the presence of Capt. Luang Chai-
  asawarak. As a teaching director, teaching Only 8 veterinary subjects.

  Year 1939

  Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Degree Program Has changed to a 5-year course where the Pathology
  and Bacteriology Department Witthaya is responsible for teaching in the 4th year and is a subject that
  includes many contents, namely pathology, bacteriology, virology. and parasitology.

  Year 1942

  The Department of Veterinary Medicine was elevated to the status of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on
  March 10, 1942 under the University Department. Medicine, Ministry of Public Health, with Lt. Col. Luang
  Chaiasawarak as the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Tiang Tansanguan as the head. Pathology and Bacteriology
  Department.

  Year 1954

  Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Have transferred from the University of Medicine to be affiliated with
  Kasetsart University, Ministry of Agriculture (Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives at present), with
  Prof. Dr. Tiang Tansa-nguan as the Dean on December 28 1954.

  Year 1957

  The Faculty of Veterinary Science has revised the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum to 6 years
  until now. Responsible for teaching at that time, 10 departments with Prof. Dr. Tiang Tansanguan as the
  head of the pathology department. Dr. Lek Thanasukarn is the head of the Bacteriological Department
  and Dr. Jit Woramontri is the head of the Parasitology Department. but due to lack of readiness therefore
  allowing students to study general pathology (General Pathology) at the Faculty of Medicine Science and
  Siriraj Hospital University of Medicine, with Prof. Dr. Pradit Tansurat responsible for teaching.

  Year 1959-1961

  invited Professor Zacarias de Jesus, a Filipino expert from the Department of Veterinary Parasitology, The
  College of Veterinary Medicine and Graduate School, University of Philippines as a consultant and
  developing the teaching of parasitology.

  Year 1964

  Dr. Rue Jensen, Dean College of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University, U.S.A. Invited to be an
  advisor to the Faculty's administration. and has helped develop academic especially in pathology 
  Ornithology and parasitology Under the cooperation between Kasetsart University and the University of
  Hawaii.

  Year 1967

  The Faculty of Veterinary Science was transferred from Kasetsart University. returned to Chulalongkorn
  University again On October 24, 1967, with Prof. Dr.Tiang Tansanguan, Dean, as the head of the pathology
  department, Prof. Dr. Lek. Thanasukarn is the head of the bacteria department and Dr. Suporn Pho-ngern
  is the head of the parasitology department.

  Year 1968-1969

  invited Major W.L. Wooding and Major J.D. Pulliam, veterinary pathologists Americans from SEATO come to
  help teach and improve the teaching of pathology.

  Year 1970

  invited Professor Dr. Karl Friedhoff from West Germany to help develop teaching and research 
  parasitology.

  Year 1972

  Dr. Lek Thanasukarn, MD, is the head of the pathology department. and conducting a combination of
  pathology, bacteria Ornithology and parasitology together as a pathology department

  Year 1975

  Department of Pathology was renamed Department of Pathology.

  Year 1976

  Prof. Dr. Lek Thanasukarn, Head of Pathology Department The department is divided into 3 departments:
  pathology unit microbiology unit and parasitology unit
 

  Year 1979

  The Department of Pathology was renamed the Department of Pathology. and is still divided into 3
  departments

  Year 1985

  Virology which is part of the Microbiology Unit has separated the administration into virology units

  Year 1996

  The Microbiology Unit was established as the Department of Microbiology on June 20, 1996.

  Year 1996

  Department of Pathology consists of 3 sub-units: Pathology Unit Parasitology Unit and virology unit

  Year 2022 

  On October 1, the Virology Unit has moved to the subordinate Department of Microbiology Department of
  Pathology therefore only 
2 units: pathology unit and parasitology unit until now

Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory Guidelines for the submission of diagnostic samples

     1. All samples should be collect in leak-proof containers.
     2. Sample diagnostic requirements :
         Each sample container must be labeled with
          - Sample name
          - Sample types (EDTA blood, feces, organ etc.)
          - Date of collection
     3. Submit samples at Parasitology Unit, 14th floor, 60 years building, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn
         University in working hours (Monday-Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
     4. Fill out the sample submission form (Download from website or on request at the parasitology unit). The staff will
         receive the sample and inform service fee .
     5. Make the payment within 3 days at Finance department, Faculty of Veterinary Science, 50 years building , 2rd floor
         and send a copy or photo of the receipt to email : cuvet.parasitology.lab@gmail.com. 
     6. The results will sent via email only. Originals document can be picked up at Parasitology Unit.
     7. In case of urgent submission, please contact at least a day in advance .
     8. If you have any question, please contact the laboratory for details call 02-218-9667.
