Chulalongkorn University welcomes FAO’s Director-General in showcase of international collaboration

9 January 2024 Bangkok, Thailand | Chulalongkorn University President Professor Bundhit Eu-arporn welcomed the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) who is visiting the university as part of his annual trip to the region. He sees the visit as a testament to the commitment to advancing the knowledge and collaboration between Chulalongkorn University and the United Nations.

Qu Dongyu was visiting Chulalongkorn University highlighting FAO’s recent redesignation of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science as its Reference Centre on Antimicrobial Resistance. The University, which was first designated as a reference centre for AMR in 2019, remains the only FAO Reference Centre for AMR in Asia and one of nine recognized AMR centres globally.

Chulalongkorn University’s designation as an FAO Reference Centre for AMR is important in the global efforts to address AMR because it adds value to FAO’s work in mitigating AMR. The University is helping to provide scientific and technical expertise, diagnostic services, laboratory and field training, coordinate research and developmental studies, and contribute to operationalizing the FAO AMR Action plan and delivering FAO projects in Asia and the Pacific.
