The Department of Veterinary Public Health, faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University has responsibility in teaching, research and academic services with veterinary public health work is related to personal and animal hygiene and the country’s economy, such as zoonoses, food safety and environmental health, which are guideline of operations from the past to the present.
History of The Veterinary Public Health Department
The Department of Veterinary Public Health, faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University is the 9th department of the doctor of veterinary medicine program. Officially published in the Government Gazette, 106 vol., 218 section in December 12, 1989. At that time, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kriengsag Saitanu had been on duty of the head of department until 1995. The veterinary public health work is related to personal and animal hygiene and the country’s economy, such as zoonoses, food safety and environmental health, which are guideline of operations from the past to the present. Missions of the Department of Veterinary Public Health
Department of Veterinary Public Health has a mission to transfer knowledge by organizing teaching to produce veterinary graduates and graduate students with academic excellence having morals and ethics as well as being able to respond to the needs of society with quality Pioneering and researching research to develop new knowledge that will effectively solve veterinary problems and increase livestock productivity. and is recognized
nationally and internationally Providing efficient veterinary academic services and disseminate and exchange academic knowledge nationally and internationally with the following objectives:
1. To produce graduates and senior scholars in the field of veterinary public health. to have thorough knowledge and abilities; to be able to think and Solving problems with quality, morality, ethics, and potential in self development and build a reputation for the institute National and International.
2. To produce and develop research to create new knowledge in veterinary public health for research and technology development the modern is useful for teaching and learning and solving veterinary problems.
3. To continuously produce academic works and academic services Pioneering academic work research in veterinary public health at quality for society Including consulting, training, organizing academic conferences and academic information publicity for the benefit of society and the nation.
Roles and responsibilities of the Department of Veterinary Public Health
1. Producing graduates with knowledge, competency and efficiency in veterinary public health. By aiming at producing veterinary graduates at the bachelor's level, which is a fundamental role, also producing graduate studies in the Master of Science and Doctor of Science programs. Department of Veterinary Public Health To have knowledge and competency at a higher level able to generate new knowledge in the field of Veterinary Public Health.
2. Research in veterinary public health. It is an important role and function of the department. Because the work in veterinary public health is closely related to other fields. And there are still changes and developments continuously. In order to produce quality graduates to serve society, it is necessary to be rooted in research, where personnel in the department have a role in continuous research and development of professional and social activities. In addition, the department also has a role and responsibility to solve problems in animal production and export of animal products to keep up with current events, such as research on the outbreak of the avian influenza virus. Research on antimicrobial resistance from the use of antimicrobials in animal production for consumption. Research on Chemical Risk Assessment and Pathogenic Microorganisms in Food and Animal Products. Research on waste and environmental management from livestock farms and research on emerging and re-emerging diseases in animals, etc.
3. Academic service The department focuses on solving various problems that arise in society related to public health veterinary work. This academic service work is well aligned with other roles and functions as well due to the ability to solve such problems. As a result, the department uses connected data as research. And to combine it into a new body of knowledge to produce graduates who are aware of current social problems.
Therefore, it can be seen that both the roles and duties of the Department of Veterinary Public Health from the beginning to the present have not changed, but instead become increasingly important, respectively, from taking responsibility for the health of people and animals and the country's economy. Production of animals and animal products for domestic consumption to the international export level It brings good health to the people and good economy of Thailand.
